On September 9-10, 2024, the SYNTHIA project officially launched at the Kick-off Meeting held at IISLAFE, Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe in Valencia, Spain.
This milestone event marked the beginning of our groundbreaking initiative, bringing together leading experts in biomedical research, AI, and healthcare innovation to revolutionize synthetic data generation. The meeting was attended by a large of expert representing the 32 multistakeholder consortium partners, a diverse group of academic institutions, industry leaders, regulatory experts, and patient advocates from across Europe and beyond. Their collective expertise and motivation were evident throughout the event. With a shared vision and strong momentum, the partners expressed their commitment to advancing synthetic data solutions that will enhance research, accelerate innovation, and improve patient outcomes.
Key Highlights from the Kick-off
The event opened with welcoming remarks from SYNTHIA’s coordinators, followed by an overview of the project’s mission, strategy, and objectives. Representatives from the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) provided insights into the project's alignment with European health data strategies. A series of workshops and panel discussions focused on: The SYNTHIA 6 use cases, Synthetic Data Generation (SDG) Tools & Methods, Quality Assurance and Clinical Validation of SD, Federated Infrastructure and Data Security. The meeting also featured video interviews, a group photo session, and networking opportunities, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the consortium.
Next Steps for SYNTHIA
Over the next five years, SYNTHIA will develop a European synthetic data platform, synthetic data tools, conduct real-world evaluations, and engage with regulators and policymakers to facilitate the adoption of synthetic data in healthcare applications. The partners left Valencia energized and ready to drive SYNTHIA forward, confident that their work will play a pivotal role in the future of healthcare innovation.
